President Saakashvilli promises broad reforms

On the eve of Vice President Joe Bidden visit to Georgia, Georgian President Saakashvili hastily offered a number of democratic reforms, reports inopressa.ru. According to the article, President Saakashvilli proposed changes are to be instituted in the next 100 days. But since such reforms -if ever introduced in reality and not paper – will require cash outlays, President Saakashvilli promised that he will press the United States to continue military and financial aid to Georgia.

Victor Yuschenko is accused of stirring nationalism

Rbc.ru reports that the Moscow City Government accused Ukrainian President Victor Yuschenko of steering Ukraine’s politics towards a “terry nationalism course.” In a statement, Mr. Yuschenko is quoted by saying that activities carried out by the Moscow City sponsored organizations are “unfriendly and contentious.”

In its turn, the Moscow City Government counter-attacked stating that the Moscow House and other Moscow sponsored organizations are solely focused on developing cultural and business cooperation as well as humanitarian support for the residents of Crimea.

The press office of the Moscow City Government noted in its statement that accusations against MGU (Moscow State University) branch, The Moscow House, and Institute of CIS branch – all located in Sevastopol- are absurd. The Office of the Mayor also stressed that it will continue supporting residents of Crimea and assist them with cultural and economic initiatives.

Earlier, Mr. Yuschenko said that he ordered law enforcement agencies to check if humanitarian and educational projects sponsored by Russia in Ukraine meet the requirements of Ukrainian law. Without waiting for the official results, Mr. Yuschenko expressed his thoughts about Russian sponsored projects in Sevastopol, Ukraine: “These projects are unfriendly, and not only oriented against our State, but also against you, your family, and your children. These projects cause instability and contention.”
