Well, reading what I have written above I realized I should add something. Please don't think that the Polish-Soviet war was only a local conflict concerning who was to take Belarus. In fact, Soviet army really entered Poland and tried to go further west. German communists were already preparing to welcome them. But Soviets retreated from Poland after the defeat in the Battle of Warsaw.

Anyway, I realize that Belarus (as well as Ukraine) had been treated instrumentally by Poland it that time. :-(

1920. That was the time of the Polish-Soviet war.
In Poland that war is considered as an act of Soviet aggression (moreover: an attempt of a greater invasion on Western Europe). Russians, as far as I know, think exactly the opposite, pointing out that it was Polish troops who first entered Belarus. I still do not know where the truth is. Must be somewhere in between. The thing is that in 1920 the political status of the region called Belarus was rather undefined. And there were several different Belarussian governments which tried to gain the control over the country. I only know how the story finished... finally Belarus had been divided between Poland and Soviet Union.
