Winter Olympic 2014 in… Sochi, Russia?! Huh?!
Oh, that lovely breath of the warm Black Sea. Unmatched nightlife. Crazy prices for the housing, quality of which would give a birth to an inexpressible confusion to anybody who ever cared about the difference between one-, two- and minus 5 star hotels. (By the way, there, in the place we are talking about, small barn where in winter owner used to keep theirs stuff and perhaps theirs pets, is considered full-blown apartment…no joke). And food? Oh, that food… Legendary quality. Even more legendary then those who survived eating it without any severe damage to theirs health after a month-long vacation. Beaches are crowded no less then Johns Beach, NY in the early mid-August Saturday afternoon. Beautiful mountain trails and crazy mountain road drivers, who (for a good amount of money of course) will give you a lift down or up that mountain road in the way you’d feel the Road of Death in Bolivia is a kid’s joke. Weather is wonderful. The coldest month is February. But do not let the word ‘coldest’ trick you. Winter’s average temperature there is 42.8 °F(+6 °C). Not Phoenix, but still somewhat warm to my mind.
Sochi, Russia. Universally renowned pan-exUSSR resort(summer time resort to be precise) will host Winter Olympic games(yeah, those games where they gather to ski, skate, and do all kind of crazy stuff on the snowy peaks and icy tracks) of the to be glorious year of 2014.
I don’t know fellas, either Russia has some sort of special plan that will turn global warming into global cooling(hey maybe that was the reason behind Putin’s pit-stop at Maine last Sunday); or Russia has a climate-adjusting alien technology, usage of which we are yet to witness. In either case, Russia got a good opportunity to earn a big buck(or at least Russian top-ruling fellas… who has ever cared about mere mortals there?..)
Anyway, let’s hope the choice of the Olympic Committee will prove to be right and will benefit everyone. One is for sure, that the town of Sochi will change dramatically over the next 6.5 years. But the thing I hope for the most, that these upcoming Winter Olympic games will be held in democratic Russia and not in the born again dictatorship…

I had no idea that the 2014 Winter Olympics site had even been chosen. What a lovely
place to have the Winter Games!! I wonder how they will bring the skiers and speed skaters
to that place for cmpetition..I have a great idea..why not have the figure and speed skating
competitions outdoors? Like they did at the Grenoble Winter Games back in the 1960s.
It’s interesting that Putin and Bush will be there in a couple of week..I hope
we see some great photo ops.

Hey guys! Maybe a swift look in Google Earth (or just a map) and you’ll see some spectacular mountain ranges. Sochi is just at the foot of it.

Great, another sleepy soviet era backwater where you could never go as a bourgeoisie American without getting hassled will now become a thug-infested playland for Russia criminal elite where Americans won’t be able to go because they will be priced out. Unless they are a thug like the Russians and have connections in drug running, backroom oil deals and prostitution. Oh, just to play it safe, make sure to shave your head and act like an asshole while your there if you don’t want to attract any attention. Russia: from feudalism to communism to runaway robber baron free market economics. I think they skipped a step or five.

For those of you that have never been there, there is snow on the mountains almost year around. In the winter, there will definitely be snow. And I guess those of you that don’t think so are smarter than the Olympic committee. Maybe you can get a job there or become the unofficial consultant. I hear they will die for some moron advice.
See you in Sochi that is if you are not scared of getting hassled. But then again, some people will always get hassled (see above post).

Sorry to break it to you ignorant people. But Sochi would be a Brilliant place to host the 2014 Winter Olympics. I am from Canada and lived in Russia for five years. Sochi is by far a better place to host the Winter Olympics then here (where I am right now) in British Columbia where it is more likely to rain then anything. Sochi is guaranteed to have real snow, although the weather is very nice there, in the winter, there is a definite snowfall. Being hassled, if you are that afraid, then do not go. They do not like ignorant people, and will not have a hard time telling you that either. When I lived in Russia you barely saw anyone with a shaved head. So maybe you should get your ignorance over there and see it for yourself.

good morning, You write some very good blogs. I always check back here often to see if you have updated. Has everyone been following the Olympics? I found a funny olympics Blooper video on youtube that shows what happens when an athlete pushes it too hard, check it out, it will make you laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Phw_pGC4kE
